The Idea

Independence is not a personality type or a race toward adulthood. It is the growing ability to notice what needs attention, make a reasonable plan, act, check the result, and ask for help when the situation exceeds a child’s role.

A family needs direction without using age as a verdict. The useful question is not “Should a child this age already know this?” but “What is the next safe part this child can genuinely begin to carry?”
